lyrics

My top 5 albums of 2010 because I like to get on the bandwagon... and way late. That's how I roll. Oh & I like dark, brooding stuff. It was that kind of year. Deal with it.

1. THE NATIONAL. High Violet. it's indescribable and yet I'll try: melancholy, heavy, lingering, it digs down deep and stays in my throat. I still get shivers every time I hear Sorrow or Anyone's Ghost and I've listened to them over and over.

Sorrow found me when I was young
Sorrow waited, sorrow won
Sorrow they put me on the bill
It's in my honey, it's in my milk

Don't leave my hyper heart alone on the water
Cover me in rag and bone sympathy
'cause I don't wanna get over you
I don't wanna get over you

Sorrow's my body on the waves
Sorrow's a girl inside my cave
I live in a city sorrow built
It's in my honey, it's in my milk

Don't leave my hyper heart alone on the water
Cover me in rag and bone sympathy
'cause I don't wanna get over you
I don't wanna get over you

Don't leave my hyper heart alone on the water
Cover me in rag and bone sympathy
'cause I don't wanna get over you
I don't wanna get over you

2. Jeremy Messersmith: The Reluctant Graveyard. Another superb album that has me going back and listening to everything else he's done. These songs are so sad yet not at all. They shimmer and I didn't know that word actually worked for songs, but they do for these. My favorite on the album has to be

lucy takes the long way home
meets me in a field of stone
she says "i don't know how i'm s'pose to feel
my body's cold my guts are twisted steel."

and i feel like i'm some kind of frankenstein
waiting for a shock to bring me back to life
but i don't want to spend my time
waiting for lightning to strike.

oooooh

so underneath the concrete sky
lucy puts her hand in mine
she says "life's a game we're meant to lose.
but stick by me and i will stick by you."

cause i'm like a princess in a castle high
waiting for a kiss to bring me back to life
but i don't want to spend my time
waiting for just another guy.

3. Arcade Fire, The Suburbs. Another fantastic album. They can do no wrong in my eyes. These songs are a little more rock and roll, a little less moving for me but they make me want to sing in the car like I'm 16, but with feeling.

Let’s go downtown and watch the modern kids
Let’s go downtown and talk to the modern kids
They will eat right out of your hand
Using great big words that they don’t understand

They’re singing
Rococo, Rococo, Rococo, Rococo…
Rococo, Rococo, Rococo, Rococo…

They build it up just to burn it back down
They build it up just to burn it back down
The wind is blowing all the ashes around
Oh my dear God what is that horrible song?

They’re singing
Rococo, Rococo, Rococo, Rococo…
Rococo, Rococo, Rococo, Rococo…

They seem wild but they are so tame
They seem wild but they are so tame
They’re moving towards you with their colors all the same
They want to own you but they don’t know what game
They’re playing

Rococo, Rococo, Rococo, Rococo
Rococo, Rococo, Rococo, Rococo

4. Vampire Weekend, Contra. Total no-brainer. Awesome tunes as usual. Can't get enough of them, especially in summer

I think UR a contra

I had a feeling once
That you and I
Could tell each other everything
For two months

But even with an oath
With truth on our side
When you turn away from me
It’s not right

I think ur a contra

My revolution thoughts
Your little arrows of desire
I want to trace them to the source
And the wire

But it’s not useful now
Since we’ve both made up our minds
You’re going to watch out for yourself
And so will I

I think ur a contra
And I think that you’ve lied
Don’t call me a contra
Till you’ve tried

You wanted good schools and friends with pools
You’re not a contra

You wanted rock and roll, complete control
Well, I don’t know

Never pick sides
Never choose between two
Well I just wanted you
I just wanted you

You said,
“Never pick sides
Never choose between two”
Well I just wanted you
I just wanted you

I think ur a contra
And I think that you’ve lied
Don’t call me a contra
Till you’ve tried

6. Sufjan Stevens. Age of Adz. Sure, he's nuts, bizarre, totally off the wall. But I love his music. Love it. Even with the crazy, crazy, CRAZY 80's stuff going on it is gorgeous.

I Walked

Lover, will you look at me now?
I'm already dead to you
But I'm inclined to explain
To you what I could not before
Whatever you didn't do, what you couldn't say
I am sorry that the worst has arrived
For I deserve more
For at least I deserve the respect of a kiss goodbye

Tell me, do you think of me now
As I think of you?
For I could not have shaken the touch of your breath on my arm
For it has stayed in me as an epithet
I am sorry the worst has arrived
For I'm on the floor
In the room where we made it our last touch of the night

I walked, because you walked
But I won't probably get very far
Sensation to what you said
But I'm not about to expect something more
I would not have run off
But I couldn't bear that it's me
It's my fault
I should not be so lost
But I've got nothing left to love

Lover, will you look from me now
I'm already dead
But I've come to explain
Why I left such a mess on the floor
For when you went away I went crazy
I was wild with the breast of a dog
I ran through the night
With the knife in my chest
With the lust of your loveless life

I walked, because you walked
But I won't probably get very far
Sensation to what you said
But I'm not about to expect something more
I would not have run off
But I couldn't bear that it's me
It's my fault
I should not be so lost
But I've got nothing left to love

I walked, because you walked
